How to convert CSV to Excel

Preserve your CSV values as text
Every field becomes a text cell in a single worksheet called “CSV data”. Values such as 00123, 12345678901234567890, 01/02/2026 and -12.50 stay text. Formula-looking content such as =SUM(A1:A2) also stays text; it is not executed as a formula.
Numbers and dates are intentionally not inferred. This protects identifiers and ambiguous dates, but means Excel calculations may require you to convert selected cells to numbers afterward.

Supported files and limits
UTF-8 CSV, TSV and TXT files up to 2 MB, 100,000 rows, 256 columns and 200,000 fields. Each cell supports up to 32,767 UTF-16 code units. Output is limited to 20 MB; conversion stops after 30 seconds. Device memory and performance vary.
Quoted commas, escaped quotes, multiline values, Unicode, whitespace and duplicate records are retained. Every row is data, including any header. Extra fields are retained; absent cells stay blank. CSV quoting style and line endings are not workbook features, and absent versus explicitly empty fields may look identical in Excel.
Frequently asked questions
Will leading zeros disappear?
No. This converter writes text cells, so 00123 stays 00123. It also protects long identifiers from numeric rounding.

Does conversion clean or repair my CSV?
No cleanup is applied. Malformed quotations stop conversion with an explanation. Use CSV Rescue’s repair tool to review repairs, download the reviewed CSV, then convert it here.
Can I convert Excel back to CSV?
Not in this release. This tool supports CSV to XLSX only. XLSX and legacy XLS imports are not implemented.
